Welcome to the Slip Away website.  We are Rich Crowell and Jan Schwab, and Slip Away is our 1978 Islander Freeport 41' ketch-rig sailing yacht.  We left Los Angeles (Marina del Rey) in 2003 with a long-term plan to spend several years exploring the world.

We completed our circumnavigation on Sunday, May 12, 2019, when we arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA and crossed our outbound track from December 30, 2008, so it took us 10 years, 4 months and 13 days to sail around the world.  Since starting our sailing journey in 2003, we have sailed over 57,000 miles, visited 33 countries and overseas territories, and crossed the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans.  It's been an awesome adventure!

We've kept a log of our travels, as well as information about boat maintenance we've done along the way. We hope you enjoy reading about our experiences.

Upon reaching our goal of sailing around the world, we put Slip Away up for sale, and she sold quickly.  The Worral Family has taken over the ownership and care of this sturdy and beautiful vessel, and we wish them the best as they explore the world with her.
